Michael Glickman / The Circular

"The Circular", an A4 magazine, was the journal of the Centre for Crop Circle Studies (founded in 1990 to study and report back on the crop circle phenomenon). The CCCS no longer exists.

The following paragraph is contained on Andy Thomas' "Swirled News" web site, in Michael Glickman's April 2004 column :

I was sent a copy of 'The Circular', a hoax-fancying magazine I had not read for some years. There was a piece attributing to me words which I never said. Is it worth the trouble of replying? Their circulation, apparently, is 17.

Following representations made to him and Glickman about the inaccuracy of these statements, Thomas inserted the following paragraph in Glickman's column:

[CCCS have asked us to clarify that this is a humorous comment by Michael and not an accurate reflection of the true, much higher, circulation figures! They also wish to point out that The Circular is not a "hoax-fancying journal", but instead it "seeks to be open-minded and fair" - Ed.]

For the record, CCCS did not ask for clarification that "that this is a humorous comment", but that the offending remarks be removed. As editor of 'The Circular', I also contacted Glickman, offering him the right of reply to the article in question.

By 16th April, Glickman's column had been extensively re-written (obviously in response to further objections from other quarters), including the following relevant section:

I was sent a copy of 'The Circular', a magazine that does not accept my God status and as such I had not read for some years. There was a piece attributing to me words which I always use but was it worth the trouble of replying? Their circulation, apparently, is only 2 million and they don't send me one.

I have been bounced off the screen by my boy friend, who wants to say this:

[CCCS have asked us to clarify that this is a humorous comment by Michael and not an accurate reflection of the true, much higher, circulation figures! They also wish to point out that The Circular is not a "hoax-fancying journal", but instead it "seeks to be open-minded and fair" - Ed - Close friend of Michaels.] Now carry on Michael with your crap:

OK, well I was saying.

However, by 19th April the column had reverted to its original form (with insertion by Thomas).

For the benefit of those who do not yet know the journal, 'The Circular' is most certainly not a "hoax-fancying magazine" and to describe it as such is to grossly deceive the public.
